Have you ever considered the significance of why Yeshua turned water into wine at a wedding?
John 2
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. 12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days. 13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
It is therefore not a coincidence that the miracle performed by Yeshua before he begins his public ministry would be related to the most miraculous event i.e. when we were delivered from our sins because Yeshua shed his precious blood on the cross for us.
Let us unpack all the words that have been made bold:
· Passover - Water turned to wine takes place at the wedding just before Yeshua attended Passover at Jerusalem. Yeshua was crucified during Passover. The ultimate Lamb was sacrificed.
· Third day – Resurrection: The crucifixion represents the death of a perfect, unblemished sacrifice on our behalf. His resurrection on the third day represents new beginning and new life to all who trust in Him.
· Marriage – Revelation 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. Bridegroom – Yeshua is the bridegroom and the church is the bride.
· Mine hour is not yet come –other words his time of public ministry, including the working of miracles had not yet come. In John 12:23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.” This statement made by Yeshua is relevant to His sacrifice on the cross for our salvation. His GLORY was manifested to the WORLD!
· Six water pots -God made man after His own image on the sixth day. Fresh water was stored in water pots for purification processes. Yeshua is the living water. The water pots represent man. We are the vessels. He poured his living water into us the vessel. The water he poured into us turned to wine represents the blood he has covered us for the atonement of our sins so that we may have everlasting life.
· Good wine – The new covenant, Yeshua saving both Jew and Gentiles by shedding his blood for us, is the perfect sacrifice. Nothing in this world can now separate us from God!
Luke 22:20 After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.
The blood:
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
We are made new:
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
