Exodus 14
I recently stumbled on a you tube video which had Pastor Manual Johnson – Mega Praise Ministries discussing the Red Sea Miracle.
Moses went seven times to Pharaoh and made this request: Thus, saith the Lord, let my people go. All 10 plagues were announced to Pharaoh. Each time, Pharaoh resisted, and he did not let the people go. Initially Pharaoh hardened his heart. Plague after plague – the wicked were given enough opportunity to repent and turn from their ways but they had refused. Now the turnaround point is over. Towards the 9th plague – God allowed for Pharaoh’s heart to be hardened.
This is what our awesome God did:
a) The Lord will not only confuse your enemy but will also keep them in the dark while he is protecting and directing you!
At the beginning of chapter 14 God also explained to Moses that the route He wanted the people to travel may look confusing to the enemy because He asked them to turn and encamp. However, this request from the Lord was so that He could display His glory. Therefore, it is important for us to be obedient and to be still when God is working in your life. Did you know that in (KJV) verses 19-20 the Lord protected the Israelites by keeping the enemy in darkness whilst providing light to the Israelites.
19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: 20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
b) The parting of the Red Sea was not announced to Pharaoh, yet all the plagues were announced to Pharaoh. Moses did not know what was expected of him until he was approaching the Red Sea.
There are times in life where you can’t turn left or right. All you can do is go forward and depend on God. Remember when I am weak, He is strong. The Israelites started to panic. Moses assured them that God is faithful. God will rescue them. Do not be afraid and in verse 14 “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
15 And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: 16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
God may not share with you all the details to the promised land, but we need to Trust in His perfect timing and in His plan for us. The plan may not look easy, it may not even make any sense. God is in control. We need to be obedient to His instructions. We must walk by faith and not by sight.
c) The Lord will fight your battles to the end. The Lord disrupted the Egyptians pursuit to allow the Israelites sufficient time to cross the sea.
24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the Lord looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, 25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the Lord fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
The Egyptians pursued the Israelites with an intention to harm them, but God’s plan was redemption.
God is Alpha and the Omega. The first and the last. The beginning and the end. He knows our journey; we need to rest in Him and surrender it all.
I am always reminded by how Great our God is and how small our understanding is compared to our God. Isaiah 55: 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God will do so much more than we can anticipate or imagine but our obedience and faith without doubt will see the promise He has for us. Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us
