While praying, the Holy Spirit brought to remembrance the miracle of the floating axe head. I have asked the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning and significance of this event. That night the Lord opened up the word for our understanding. My mind was bombarded with the meaning of each line. I share with you what I have received from the Holy Spirit. Be Blessed!
2 Kings 6 The Floating Axe/Ax Head
6 One day the group of prophets came to Elisha and told him, “As you can see, this place where we meet with you is too small. 2 Let’s go down to the Jordan River, where there are plenty of logs. There we can build a new place for us to meet.” “All right,” he told them, “go ahead.”3 “Please come with us,” someone suggested. “I will,” he said. 4 So he went with them. When they arrived at the Jordan, they began cutting down trees. 5 But as one of them was cutting a tree, his axe head fell into the river. “Oh, sir!” he cried. “It was a borrowed axe!” 6 “Where did it fall?” the man of God asked. When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it into the water at that spot. Then the axe head floated to the surface. 7 “Grab it,” Elisha said. And the man reached out and grabbed it.
Let us unpack this miracle:
People -This is not just any group of people. These are prophets, people who are fellowshipping with God, people who know and believe in God.
Plan – They want to build a large meeting area. So, they cut down logs which they will use to build a new place. This is expansion and growth in a new place.
Location – The location of the challenges/battle is always significant. You may not know the history or the background, but God does. In this text it is the Jordan River - Elisha performed two miracles at the Jordan: he healed Naaman's leprosy by having him bathe in its waters (2 Kings 5:14), and he made an axe head lost by one of the "children of the prophets" float, by throwing a piece of wood into the water (2 Kings 6:6). The Israelites crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land (Joshua 3)– The Lord had parted the waters of the Jordan, just as he had parted the Red Sea in Egypt. Christ was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. The Father declared that this is His son and the Holy Spirit descended on Christ. The waters of the Jordan represent freedom from oppression, breakthrough, deliverance and a new creation.
Equipment – The axe is a weapon and a tool used for clearing obstacles, used in war/ battle, for chopping wood.
The disruption - The (axe)tool used which is effective for the production of their plan falls into the river. This slows down and disrupts production. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. He will derail the process.
Fear - Over and above the tool does not belong to you and you have to replace it. Panic and fear regarding ownership. Fear creeps in when we are in a challenge we try to fight in the flesh.
God – Elisha throws a stick into the water where the axe fell. Does this not sound familiar? Remember when Moses threw a piece of wood in the water… The stick/wood is symbolic of Yeshua. When you are in a challenge throw God into the situation. He changes the situation from bitter to sweet!!!! Bitter Water at Marah – Exodus 15: 22-25 The narrative concerning Marah in the Book of Exodus states that the Israelites had been wandering in the desert for three days without water. They came to the oasis of Marah, but it was bitter, hence the name, which means bitterness. The people complained and Moses cried out to the Lord for help. the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink.
Command: Grab it! The man reached out and grabbed it. When you trust in God, He will defeat your enemies/battle/challenge. In the process you are refined by the testing of your faith, the spewing out your impurities and deliverance from what is holding you back. Now you are ready to complete the job. God will command you to grab it.
Summary
While fellowshipping with God, we will encounter challenges in our hunger for growth. God is preparing you for greater opportunities, but during this process the enemy will attack so that the purpose is derailed. God will equip you for your growth/ expansion, but while being equipped it can be taken away by the enemy. When faced with obstacles and challenges, throw God into the battle and let Him fight the battle. Your faith and trust in God will deliver you from your impurities and allow you to complete what God has planned for you in a body (heart and mind) that is prepared for His purpose.
Remember the enemy cannot take away what God has planned for you. The devil will cause obstacles, he will lie to you, create fear and confusion, but he is unable to cancel God’s plan. So, remain steadfast in God who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
