20 November 2021 – Thy rod and the staff

Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Rod: Protect and defend

A shepherd's rod is a crafted club whittled from solid wood, often featuring an enlarged knob at the end. The rod was used as a weapon to protect and defend the sheep from predators. The rod is a symbol of protection against our enemies.

Staff: Guide and Rescue

The staff is a long and sturdy stick with a hook at one end which is used by a shepherd to manage and sometimes catch/rescue sheep. The staff therefore is a symbol to guide us when we go astray and rescue us from our enemies, troubles, trials and tribulations

So, no matter what we are going through in life, no matter how difficult and bleak the circumstances maybe; just remember that the Lord will protect and defend you (rod). He will also guide and rescue you (staff). Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
